The Price of Loving You

Chapter 8: His Past

You gulp down some saliva as you remain there, trying to quickly come up with a new lie to lay him astray.

"Well?" He asks waiting impatiently.

You finally think of something, and before you could answer he cuts you off.

"Is your name by any chance _______?", he asks curiously, almost as if he already knew the answer to that question.

Your eyes slowly widen up in complete surprise. You didn't think he would remember you at all. "H-how do you know?"

"So... you are the one... the one of my broken memories..." he lowers his said, his voice slowly breaking up.

'His broken memories...? So he doesn't fully remember me then...' You wonder to yourself as you learn he never fully forgot about you. You suddenly flinch when you see Steve raise his Iron Sword at you. You close your eyes thinking he's going to strike you when suddenly - *slash* - you yelp in response but you don't feel anything happening to you. When you open your eyes, you see the rope you had tangled around you has been cut off, and slowly fall to the ground. When you raise your head to look at him, he holds you ever so tightly in his arms. You remain standing there shocked. You hadn't felt his warmth in a long time, but you finally hug him back.

The moment he came in contact with you so close, his head started to hurt ever so greatly, making him step away from you, groaning in pain while holding his head. "Are you OK?! Steve!!" you ask very concerned. He goes through a severe event of flashbacks as he starts to slowly remember everything. He remembered inviting you to stay at his place to keep you safe. He remembered going on adventures with you. He remembered helping you build your sacred temple in a lush jungle forest. He remembered that one special night he planned for you until... you see him fall to his knees, shaking.

"He... killed me... didn't he?" he asks still shivering from all the pain.

You finally figured he fully remembered everything. Unable to think of anything else, you nod certifying his question. His pain starts to slowly subside, and then gets back up on his feet. He turns around, unable to look at your face. "So... did he hurt you in any way?", he asks, waiting for that answer he really don't want to hear.

You remember the night when Herobrine bit you, but there's no way you could tell him that, lest they end up clashing with each other again, and probably resulting in Steve's death once more. You shake your head in denial instead. "I'm fine. He hasn't hurt me at all." You reply with a fake smile.

"Well, that's good..." He finally turns around to face you. "So, I guess you'll be wanting your stuff back now..." You nod in agreement. "Alright then." He then leads you to his small shack. "Wow, it's very well-hidden! You sure were very determined to capture me, weren't you?" you ask surprised. He chuckles to your question, "Yeah, I needed some answers badly. And you looked just like the woman of my dreams and memories. I just wanted to make sure you were that person, and not going through the risk of confusing you with someone else." You both walk inside, and he shows you the chest where he put all your stuff.

"Thanks for getting my stuff back, Steve." You then proceed to collect all your stuff. "Don't mention it. Hey, you need help carrying all the stuff back?" He asks out of curiosity.

"NO!" you suddenly reply in a shocked manner, making him step back startled. "OH! Um, I'm sorry... Er... I meant to say I can carry everything by myself. Thanks for the offer though." You couldn't think of anything at that time. You can't allow Steve to find a way into Herobrine's stronghold, or all hell would break loose.

"Er... Um... are you OK?" He asks concerned.

"But of course I'm OK, darling! Why wouldn't I be?" You say cracking a fake smile again. "Um... well, OK. If you insist." He replies raising an eyebrow, having a hard time believing you. You finish gathering everything up, and you are ready to walk out of the door. Suddenly you feel Steve grabbing you by your hand, and turns you around by pulling you closer to him, and steals a kiss from you, making you blush ever so brightly. You try to break free, but he holds you tighter. You feel his warmth the closest ever, but you try your best not to return the kiss, until he finally lets you go. "I'm sorry... But I've always wanted to do that..." He says blushing embarrassed. "I don't know when will be the next time I'll see you again, and I know you don't want to go back with me for whatever reason that keeps holding you."

You look down embarrassed, still blushing brightly. "I'm sorry, Steve." You finally reply breaking the awkward moment. "I... I have to go..." You finally part ways rushing out of the shack, not looking back, while your eyes swell up with tears. You dash as fast as you can, jumping from tree to tree, as countless mixed emotions rush through your heart, until you make it to the Nether portal. You stand there, right in front of it. "What is wrong with me... I'm happy to see him... Happy to know he remembers me now... But... I just can't afford to see him get hurt again... I CAN'T!!!" you shout angrily outloud. "Why me? Why did I have to get caught in a stupid love triangle?! I'M SO STUPID!!" You keep ranting as tears fall from your cheeks now.

You remain there, sitting in front of the portal, crying your heart out. You just had to let everything out. Keeping it all inside was proving to be painful and annoying. A few moments later, you start to feel better, and refreshed. You gather your courage, and walk through the portal.

-Time skip to a few moments later-

You are back now at Herobrine's mansion. You are completely exhausted from abusing your powers again, and you make your way to your room to empty out your inventory. "Sigh... I'm so tired..." you mumble to yourself. "I should take a nice warm bath." You go to the bathroom, and fill the tub with water. You undress completely and get inside the tub, feeling all relaxed. You felt so relaxed you actually end up falling half-asleep.

'Ngh... Who is that...? Where am I?' You wonder to yourself as you see a person's silhouette. 'Herobrine?' you ask the person. He then turns around, and opens his glowing white eyes. 'So, you went and gave him a little visit, didn't you?' he asks with a very upset tone. 'N-no! It's not what you think! I was just getting my stuff back!' You reply shivering. 'And yet you allowed him to steal a kiss from you... Now tell me, should I feel happy about that? Should I just sit back and let it go?!' His voice now sounds angrier. 'No! Please! It's not like that!' -- "It's NOT LIKE THAT!!" you shout in your bathroom as you wake up abruptly. You look around startled, and you don't see him anywhere. "Sigh... I guess it was just a dream... and a scary one at that." You finally finish grooming yourself up, and walk out of the bathroom.

You dress with comfortable clothing and go for a walk around the mansion looking for Herobrine, but you don't find him anywhere. "Huh... I guess he hasn't returned yet." You mumble to yourself. You then stop right in front of the library. "Well, I guess I could kill some time reading a little bit." You walk inside and wander around, browsing his collection. Some of them are a little dusty. You guess they haven't been touched in a while. You find a particular book that caught your attention titled 'Book of the Unreadable'. "Now this is one strange title." You pick it up, and open it, only to see a bunch of unreadable scribbles in it. "O...K... Unreadable indeed." You say laughing a bit, and before putting it back, you notice something odd in the crevice of the bookshelf where you picked the first book. You get closer for a better look, and find what seemed to be a switch. Curious, you press it, and it opens up a tiny little door, blowing a lot of dust. You step back startled and coughing a lot. "Great... *cough* so much dust..." You move back closer for a better look and spot what seemed to be a very old book hidden all the way in the back. You reach out to it, and pick it up. It was very dusty, completely covering the book's title. You blow it off completely, and the title is finally revealed, reading 'Genesis'. "Hmm, doesn't that mean 'Origin' or 'The Beginning' of something?" You get even more curious, and you sit down in front of a table to read it.

'In the beginning, there was nothing. Only absolute darkness. The universe was absolutely empty, and lawless. One day, an entity found this empty universe, and decided to give it light. The universe finally had light, but it was still empty. The entity decided to add more life into the universe, and so, he created a very special world with endless possibilities. A world where all dreams could come true. The entity shaped the world in the form of a cube, and named it Minecraftia. This entity was later known as Notch, the creator and destroyer of the universe, because if he really wanted to, all that he created, he could easily take all away again. Notch thought then, someone must uphold the laws of the world. And so, he brought forth the first person to ever inhabit Minecraft. The very first Steve. The unique and original. The first child to live in Minecraftia.'

You stop for a moment pondering about what you just read. 'The first 'Steve'? What does that mean?' You continue reading farther up ahead.

'Notch saw that the child was very lonely and sad. So he decided to give him some companions. He brought forth new pets to keep the child company. He added the cows, the sheep, the pigs, the chickens, the wolves, and the ocelots later on. The child now seemed happier. Full of life. He had absolutely everything. He had friends, and he was happy that way.'

"Well that was very nice of him." you mumble quietly. You keep on reading farther ahead, quickly going through the pages, very curious.

'Later on, the world seemed like it had no absolute fun or interesting things going on. There was just too much peace. Nothing interesting was happening around the child's life. So the creator thought of adding the feeling of thrill to his life. He added hostile mobs into the world of Minecraftia. The child was now scared. He could not tame the new creatures brought into the world. They would seek to harm him in any way possible. The child was forced to fend for himself.'

You gasp out of surprise. "OK, that was NOT nice at all..." You continue reading, now worrying about this 'child'.

'The child was struggling. He was having a hard time surviving. His spirit was now breaking. Whenever the child thought he was safe, he would end up dying, and respawning over and over again. He became wary. His life began to change. His very essence was becoming corrupt. The child was not ready to face the new threats of Minecraftia. He was being torn. The creator saw this as a flaw in the child. Instead, the creator thought of creating a new child able to withstand any hardship that Minecraftia would throw at him. The creator decided to remove the first child, and give everything to the new child, which he officially named Steve - brother to the first child.'

Your eyes begin to fill with tears. You couldn't believe what you just read. "So now you know. Indeed, I had everything." You hear a gruff voice coming from behind, and you yelp startled, closing the book. "Oh! Herobrine! I didn't know you were back. I-" He gently muffles your lips with his hand. "They took everything from me. My life, my friends, my spirit... And all of it... given to 'him'!" He scowls very upset.

"Herobrine..." You try to think of something to cheer him up, but you find no words.

"I swore revenge on the creator. I made a vow I would always haunt forever his children - the children of the future generations! And so, I came back into the game, corrupted as I am now, able to do as I please! But no one wanted me around... My friends were all taken away. My only friends now are the hostile mobs - the rejects of Minecraftia. And so... I was then known as Herobrine..." You stand up from your chair and hug him tightly.

"Please... say no more..." He remains there, unable to understand your feelings, but then proceeds to hold you back in his embrace. "Sometimes a simple act can express more than a thousand words." You whisper to him, making him actually smile, if only a little. You felt like you finally understood him more than anyone.

After a brief moment, he then steps back to look into your eyes, and changes subject completely. "You know, you've been a very bad, bad girl."

You step back a little worried. "Um, what are you-" He cuts you off immediately.

"Don't play so innocent. I know what happened." You look down ashamed, unable to look into his eyes.

"I'm sorry, Hero... I promise it won't happen again... Just... please! Don't hurt him!" You beg to him, making him squint his eyes and clench his sharp teeth grunting.

After a moment of silence, he finally replies, "Alright, I won't hurt him..." You look at him very surprised. You didn't think he would actually agree.

"In exchange, I expect you to never see him again. Like. Ever! Otherwise, I can't guarantee his... safety." He demands smirking in the most sinister way possible, but for the price of keeping Steve safe, you nod and agree. You knew Herobrine was up to something, but you are unable to read his thoughts just like he can with you.

Herobrine then cracks a smile, and changes subject once again. "So, where's that dress I asked you to wear?" He asks in an unusual happy mood. "Oh! Um... I totally forgot..." You blush all shy about it. "I want you to wear it before I show you the 'last room'." He replies reminding you about it. "Oh! Right! I can't believe I forgot about it. I'll be right back!" You say very excited about it. You then sprint to your room to get yourself ready.

-Herobrine's POV-

He walks to his room, smirking in a very unusual way, and closes the door behind him. "Oh no, my little dove. I won't be the one to hurt Steve...", he mumbles to himself followed by a very corrupted evil laugh.
